Alexzenia Whaley, 92, of Richlands, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 5, 2018.
She was born in Onslow County where she graduated Richlands High School. She then attended Atlantic Christian College (Barton College). Ms. Whaley retired from Camp Lejeune after more than 30 years with Civil Service. After retirement, she became a homemaker and a devoted care provider for her Mother. She was a member of First Christian Church, Richlands.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Oakely and Lena Pike Whaley; brothers, Burnice Whaley, Sidney Whaley; and sisters, Phoebe Tyndall and Avis Thompson. She is survived by her devoted sister and caregiver, Geraldine Norwood, of the home; sister-in-law, Dorothy Whaley of Richlands; nephews, Bill Tyndall (Becky), Keith Tyndall of Greenville, Travis Tyndall (Margie) of Newport, Kevin Whaley (Cathy) of Richlands; and nieces, Janet Bryan (Stanley) of Richlands and Angela Chase of Kinston. She will also be missed by nine great-nieces and nephews and ten great-great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the home at 401 A.I. Taylor Road, Richlands, on Thursday, from 3 pm until 5 pm.
Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, Richlands, with Reverend Lynn Maxwell officiating. Burial will be at 1 pm at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
The family would like to express a very special thanks to all of her caregivers and Continuum Home Health and Hospice, Jacksonville.
