Kaila Ashton Smith

On July 6th, 2018 at 2:04 PM, our beautiful daughter and beloved sister ran through the gates of heaven without any struggle to breathe. We can only imagine the love you felt and the beauty you saw as you were welcomed into the arms of Jesus and were met once again by Grandma Jennette Smith, Aunt Sandra Matthews, and Aunt Diane Brooks. We know that they were ecstatic to show you around from the day you arrived. From day one you have struggled with Cystic Fibrosis and battled many trials. Through all of your pain, you have managed to keep your head high and smile through everything life handed you. Kaila, often called “Bug” was an inspiration to many and attracted so many people through her positive energy. Her love for her family, friends, and her two “Fur Babies” Bit-Bit and Mya was absolutely unmeasurable. Kaila was known to be a feisty fireball who couldn't be challenged. She always looked stylish no matter what she had on, and always appeared beautiful and radiant. Her love for food was unmistakable. If you had any extra food she would scoop it up and eat every bit! Kaila was not expected to live past one year, but through the grace of God and her will and determination, she lived 27 amazing years. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family and friends at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital. She leaves behind her parents, Kenneth and Rhonda Smith that loved her from day one and will forever miss her. Her brother and best friend Landon Smith, will never forget their times together and the shared memories that they had. Kaila leaves behind Grandparents, Tommy and Pat Matthews; Grandmother, Joyce Matthews; Grandfather, JC Smith; Aunt and Uncle, Kim and Tim Akers; and Cousins, Emiley and Jessica Akers. She also leaves behind Aunt and Uncle, Sarah and Nelson Tun; Cousins, Jacob and Jordan Tun; Aunt and Uncle, Stacey and Greg Swinson; Cousin, Brandon Swinson; Uncle, Lynn Smith and Tracy; as well as her cousins, Heather, Delaney, Beckett and Meaghan. Many friends that she considered family at heart are also left behind but she will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at Brookwood Baptist Church, 903 Henderson Drive, Jacksonville, NC 28540 from 12PM - 2PM. A Celebration of Kaila’s life will follow at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis foundation at https://www.cff.org in Kaila’s memory.
