Sam dedicated over 20 years to the United States Marine Corps, serving three tours in Vietnam as well as Korea. The discipline and patriotism that he learned as a Marine never left him, as family and friends will attest.
After his retirement from the Marine Corps, Sam worked at Sander’s Ford as the boat mechanic for their marine division, then went on to open his own business, “Sam’s Boat Repair.” For 15 years, Sam was known locally as “Sam the Boat Man.” He then retired and moved back to his birthplace, Horseshoe Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed spending time with his family for many years. Sam returned to North Carolina in February of 2017 to live with his son and family. It is here, his final home, where he lived life to the fullest and created memories as a father and grandfather.
The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 6pm – 8pm at Jones Funeral Home (303 Chaney Avenue, Jacksonville NC). A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 2pm at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery (110 Montford Landing Road, Jacksonville NC).
