Obituary

Donna Ruppert McIntyre, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

Donna was born September 15, 1932 in the District of Columbia. She grew up in Norfolk, VA and after graduating from Granby High School she attended the College of William and Mary, Norfolk Division. She later held positions at the Norfolk Newspapers Inc. and Associates Discount Corporation.

At 22, she met the love of her life, Philip McIntyre. They married on October 2, 1954, beginning a military life together that spanned 20 years.

Donna was an active member of the Officer's Wives' Club as well as the Retired Officer's Wives' Club.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville for over 40 years. During that time she served as an Elder, was employed as the church secretary, enjoyed her Sunday School class and was a member of the Women of the Church.

Donna loved to oil paint, draw, sew, write and do many other crafts. She was an avid yard saler, and always delighted in the annual beach trips with her family.

What brought Donna the most joy in life was her family. Growing up she was blessed with a large extended family and was especially close with her brother, cousins and grandmother. That love of family continued throughout her entire life, as it expanded to include her husband, in-laws, a daughter, son-in-law and 4 grandchildren. She was always the happiest when her family was with her.

Donna was best known for being a sweet southern lady with the loveliest of smiles. She is already missed beyond words.

Donna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Philip McIntyre, and her parents Bernice and Charlie Fulford and Bernard Ruppert.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Beth, her husband Terry (whom she considered her son) and her precious grandchildren: Matthew, Aaron, Sarah and Jesse. She is also survived by her devoted brother, Charlie, and his wife, Claire, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Page and Helen, as well as numerous extended family members and dear family friend, Carol Nelson.

The family would like to thank those at Liberty Commons who cared for Donna these last 3 1/2 years. Also, thanks to the nurses, CNAs and doctors at OMH for the love and care they showed during Donna's recent stay. They wish to thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice, especially Grace and Vickie, for helping to make Donna's last days as peaceful and comfortable as possible.

Visitation is Monday, November 13 from 6pm to 8pm at Jones Funeral Home. Funeral Service is November 14 at 11am at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a graveside internment at Onslow Memorial Park. Donna's favorite color was blue; please consider wearing blue if you can attend.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please visit residents in your local assisted living and nursing homes.
