Swansboro- Darrell Patrick Ramsey, 70, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. He was born May 22, 1947 in Onslow County, NC son of the late, Woodrow and Mildred Pittman Ramsey.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Queens Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Gandy and Thud officiating. Burial will follow at Queens Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 14, 2017 6-8 PM at Jones Funeral Home of Swansboro.
Darrell served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After which he began a career that spanned 30 years with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Department where he served as a deputy, and also a chaplain and fire arms instructor he was the Swansboro township deputy for many years while employed with the Sheriff’s Department he went to Coastal Carolina Community College and received his degree in Criminal Justice. He was a member of the Queens Creek United Methodist Church.
He is survived by wife, Sue Ramsey of the home; daughters, Alphareta Ramsey Dorgan (John) and Lydia Ramsey Willis (Asa) both of Newport; grandchildren, PFC Patrick Dorgan (Kate) of South Korea, Brett Dorgan, Garrett Willis and Elijah Willis all of Newport; brother, Melvin Ramsey (Joy) of Tucson, AZ.
He was preceded in death by son, Darrell Patrick Ramsey, Jr.; sister, Margery Griffiths; brother, Malcolm Ramsey.

Darrell was one of the finest law enforcement officers I ever served with, and planted a deep seed of dedication to doing the job right. He was a man of honor and courage, and I will always remember his singing of hymns as he arrived to work each day. We have truly lost a good man, and a good friend.
