Rachel Arlean Turner Lee, 88, peacefully left her mortal body and went to meet our Lord on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, NC, surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Potters Hill, NC on September 6, 1929, to Rev. George and Myrtle Taylor Turner. She was married in 1946 to Rev. Damon “Bud” Lee, Sr., also of Duplin County, and the couple moved to Jacksonville, NC in 1953. Most recently, she resided at Carolina Rivers Nursing Home in Jacksonville. Her passing was the result of a sudden stroke.

She worked as a seamstress for a number of years, both in Jacksonville and Richlands, NC, and worked for many years at Northwoods Middle School as a food service worker. After her retirement, she was known by many as an extraordinary cake baker. She also managed her responsibilities as a minister’s wife from the time her husband, “Bud,” was called into the ministry in the late ‘70s until his passing in 2003. She has loved and been loved by her family and friends too numerous to count, and each life she touched will always remember her kindness.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Ida Mae Hill, Gertrude Swinson, and Georgia Rochelle; her brothers, Coy Turner and Roy Turner; and her son-in-law, Samuel Avery, Sr.
She is survived by her children, Joyce (Larry) Lanier, Carolyn Avery, Jeanette (Danny) Koonce, Damon (Wanda) Lee, Jr., and Byron (Valerie) Lee; her grandchildren, Melissa (Brent) Anderson, William Jason Marshburn, Samuel (Andrea) Avery, Jr., Lucretia (Curtis) Bryan, Misty (Wende) Marshburn-Smith, Regina (Cheyenne) Yost, Daniel Shaun (Jennifer) Koonce, Anthony (Jennifer) Lee, Zachary Lee, Thomas Lee, and Gabriella Lee; her great-grandchildren, Daniel Tiralongo, Spencer Anderson, Chloé Brown, Avery Anderson, Kelsey Avery, Faith Brown, Branden Yost, Victoria Erin Robinson, Marissa Robinson, Kaylie Yost, Brooklynn Koonce, Olivia Avery, Taylor Koonce, Waverly Marshburn-Smith, Marley Yost, Cooper Koonce, and A. J. Lee; and step-great grandchildren, Derrick Thompson, Kallie Thompson, Shane Bryan, Skylar Royster, Noah Burns, and Beau Burns. She is also survived by her sister Magdaline Sanderson and by her devoted friend and daughter-in-spirit, Alice Avery.
The family will hold visitation at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, followed immediately by a graveside service at Onslow Memorial Park. I always loved playing piano for her to sing. We always play her song I don't know what you came to do, pretty much every Sunday when we are leaving. She was such a loving person with spunk.

I met Ms. Lee a few years ago through my work. Through conversation we discovered her son, Byron, played music with my husband....what a wonderful surprise! She always had a smile and kind word to say and never knew a stranger. Many have been touched by her rays of sunshine! Ms. Lee will be missed, but she has left a wonderful legacy of love to her family and friends. Our heartfelt condolences to all the family.

Such a beautiful lady inside and out. Arlean had many talents but for me I will always remember how welcome she made me in all the years we visited yearly in her home. Love this precious lady. Cathy Turner Hibschman

My heart goes out to your family. I am so sorry that you are going through this difficult time. Psalms 46:1 says, God is our refuge and strength, a help that is readily found in times of distress. And remember that God hates it when one of His children dies (Matthew 18:14, 1 Corinthians 15:26). So He makes Himself available in order to comfort us. In fact, 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 refers to Him as the "God of all comfort". Pray to Him for strength to get through this most difficult time. Weep to Him when the words just won't come out. He will really help you (Isaiah 41:10) because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). And please, call upon His name found at Psalm 83:18. www.JW.org

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to your family. Be assured that God knows your pain and already has arrangements in place to make everything right again (Isaiah 26:19; John 5:28,29). Rely on Him in prayer during this difficult time, for He will give you peace of mind and "the power beyond what is normal" to cope (Philippians 4:6,7; 2 Corinthians 4:7). Take care.
