Theodore Roosevelt "Buster" Connor, Jr.



Swansboro- Theodore Roosevelt “Buster” Connor, Jr., 90, formerly of Dover, NC, passed from this life on August 2, 2017. He was born in Dover on May 31, 1927.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Swansboro with Rev. Buddy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Buster was employed by the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Kinston for 25 years as Sales Manager. He was employed another 20 years with the Woodman of the World Life Insurance Society. Buster served as a volunteer youth leader and was instrumental in the founding of the Woodman of the World Youth Camp in Fort Barnwell, NC and served on the Board of Trustees until his retirement in 1990. Buster was a member of the Dover Methodist Church and was a retired Charter Member of the Dover Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief for many years as well as several positions on the Dover Town Board including Mayor Pro-Tem. Buster served his country proudly in the US Army where he served in WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW #9960 of Swansboro. Buster was the unofficial mayor of his neighborhood on the White Oak River and enjoyed helping his neighbors. He also loved fishing in the White Oak River but in his later years could be found patrolling the neighborhood in his “mule” with his faithful companion, Precious. His family and friends will cherish the memory of his wisdom, humor, and hugs.
Buster is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mattie Riggs Connor of the home; son, T. R. “Ted” Connor, III (Nancy) of New Bern/Swansboro; daughter, Gina Connor Harris (Dwight) of Swansboro; grandchildren, Rachel Suzanne Connor of New Bern, Bradley Jason Connor of Wilmington, Dwight Clifford “Cliff” Harris, Jr. (Brynn) of Cedar Point, Matthew Connor Harris (Stephanie) of Stella, and Trevor Cody Harris Swansboro. He is also survived by great grandchildren, Peyton Elizabeth Harris, Cody Connor Harris, Lillian Harper Norris, Chase Eugene Harris, and Aria Aileach Harris.
