Nora Lewis Hemby, 82, of Little River, S.C., formerly of Jacksonville, N.C.
passed on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC surrounded by her beloved husband, Ray and family.
Her celebration of life is at 3:00 pm Wednesday, Feb. 15th at St. Anne’s
Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, N.C. Visitation will be held one hour prior in
St. Anne’s Parish Hall.
Nora was born April 11th, 1934 in Barnesville, N.C. to the late William
Russell and Lucy Ruth Lewis. She was the oldest of ten siblings who lived on and
managed a large farm in Robeson County. She went on to attend Campbell
College and subsequently resided in Jacksonville, N.C., where she called home
for almost 40 years of her life.
Nora was very active in the community, serving on P.T.A.’s, President of
The Jacksonville Garden Club and assisting her children and friends in any way possible with their school and civic activities. The coastal region of the Carolina’s and its immense natural beauty always provided her enjoyment and solace.
Nora is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Edward Ray Hemby. His
dedicated caretaking of his beloved partner in later life surely extended the time
and opportunities for her children, extended family and friends to experience and
create more wonderful memories with Nora. She is further survived by her son, Paul H. McKenzie, Jr. of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C.; her daughter, Sabrina Kay Guy and her husband, Zander of Surf City, N.C.; her adored granddaughter Alexa Kay McMurtrey of Wilmington, N.C. and five brothers and sisters and their children.
